Whoever their captors are, they’re smart enough to wear masks. Navy’s head thrums. It’s the headache of a man who’s been asleep for too long. Opening his eyes, they adjust to dim lights. Stopping for a moment, he listens. Feels.[break][break]
Somewhere far away, wingulls cry. A boat rocks beneath him. Navy never followed his father out to sea much, but he remembers how the boat always rocked. They’re somewhere under guard. Being taken away. Away from the battle. Away from Dewford. What awaits them if they do not think fast is the same fate that awaited Elinor Anderson and Annalise Henderson after the last battle.[break][break]
“Baki?” He calls out, struggling against his restraints. His hands and feet have been bound. Rope. Double-knotted. Hands behind his back. Hogtied like an animal in the bowels of the ship.[break][break]
“Baki, you here? Can you hear me?” His voice is a loud whisper, trying to carry across the room but no farther. The last thing he wants is for someone to realize he’s awake.

As Navy orients himself to look at her, he sees ropes strewn loosely around her body. It looks as though she was tied up much the same way as he is, though the frayed ropes with burn-marks on the end reveal it to have been fruitless trying to detain a seasoned escape artist. [break][break]

She adjusts the fake ring on her finger, closing a hidden compartment filled with Arbok venom, before she glances down at him.[break][break]

He looks defenseless in this position. It's so unalike him.[break][break]

"... I have half a mind to leave you like that. It's a good image."[break][break]

She offers him a grin, but the sound of her own voice makes her wince. She clutches her head, looking around the room they're in for any sign of their captors.[break][break]

“Get this off, will you? We need to get out of here.” Checking his waist, he has no pokeballs. Of course not. Doubtless, Tsubaki’s were taken as well. They’re just two unarmed humans against Arceus knows how many Rocket goons outside. They’re alone in this room. For now.[break][break]
“Looks like you two are in a bit of a pickle.~” A voice teases from the edge of their hearing. Looking for the voice’s source, Navy finds only darkness. “Red or blue?”[break][break]
“Huh?” Navy asks before he can stop himself.[break][break]
“Reeeed,” the voice asks, slower this time for emphasis, “or blue?”[break][break]
“Yeah, I heard you. Fan of sports movies, are you?” To that, the voice makes no reply.[break][break]
“Always went with blue as a kid.”

She gets up and regretfully begins to tug at the ropes around his wrists with a sigh, all her acid already used to burn through her own ropes. [break][break]

She'll have to do this the old-fashioned way.[break][break]

"Who the hell are you talking to?"[break][break]

So focused on pulling apart the ropes, she doesn't notice the voice at first.[break][break]

She stops, listens. And then, everything pieces itself together. At least, so she thinks. [break][break]

Tsubaki struggles to suppress a laugh at Navy's expense. [break][break]

"What, like... hey, Navy, just like you! It's that movie you're always goin' on about!"[break][break]

She nudges him teasingly, before pulling the ropes taught and letting his hands loose from behind his back. She leaves him to undo the rest, taking a few steps forward and looking for the source of the voice.[break][break]

"I can appreciate the classics, but it's soooo old and cheesy! It's like, twice as old as I am! I prefer the remake, anyway: FireRed."[break][break]

A sly smirk comes across the girl's face, but before she can say much else, a ring materializes before her. [break][break]

She stares at it blankly for a moment, watching a void open up in its center. There's a pause, and then Tsubaki slams up against the wall as an entire herd of Miltank come pouring out of the rift and into their little cell, filling the space entirely as they all clamber atop each other trying to get a foothold.[break][break]

"Wh-what the hell!?"[break][break]

Tsubaki reaches for her belt instinctively, finding nothing but an empty ball. [break][break]

That's right, they took everything else.[break][break]

"They heard you take yourself to be a cowboy now or somethin'!? Fuck!"[break][break]

“Have fun, cowboy!” A disembodied voice chuckles. Before them, a golden ring appears. Floating in midair, a stampede kicks up. One, two, three, countless Miltank, confused, start to crash through the ship. Each of them is scared. They’ve been flung from whatever pasture they were grazing in into this maelstrom.[break][break]
“What the—” He wants to ask, but there’s no time. In place of empty questions, he acts. Rushing after the Miltank, he runs out the door. With so many Miltank in such a small space, this ships won’t exist within an hour. Unless Rocket has someone serious on board, they’ll be taken by surprise.[break][break]
“This shit’s weird.” He manages to say to Tsubaki while his fist sends some goon reeling. Once he’s collected his own pokeballs, Navy promises himself he’ll see about making sure these guys get off the ship safely. This is no place to die.[break][break]
“Just when I think I’m getting used to stuff, I get thrown for a loop.” A Miltank kicks an Arbok with high horsepower, sending the snake flying through a wall out into the sea. Luckily for Navy’s conscious, the snake seems hydrodynamic. Hissing up a storm, it’s swimming back towards them.[break][break]
“I just like rivals who act like rivals!” He tries to shout over the stampede.

“Lopez? Guy like him’s not really cut out to be a rival.” Before he’s got the words out of his mouth, he hates how they taste. They’re genre savvy, in the way Kyle himself always manages to be. “He’s more like…that best friend that slept his way to the top.” His words are punctuated by a snort. “Probably not something I should say to a girl your age. Anyway.”[break][break]
One of the Miltank looks up at him, its udders swaying in a way that almost makes Navy vomit. People have been calling him a cowboy cop ever since Penny helped get him appointed as Dewford’s sheriff. He’s never wrangled a cow in his life. Looking at the blue creature rolling around the deck, spurting her blue milk at passing Rockets, he very much believes he’d never like to wrangle them.[break][break]
This region is absurd, absurd in a way only an ant farm could be. He feels like he’s dancing on a stage for the amusement of whatever creature is lord of the golden rings. No time to think. He has to act. He punches a passing Rocket. Miltank mimics the gesture, rolling over the fellow and punting him into a wall.[break][break]
“Thanks, girl.” Navy gives her the world’s most reluctant headpat before turning his attention to the open door. There’s his belt. Six Pokemon still sit there, waiting for him.[break][break]
“Got my pokeballs back, Baki.” If they’re going to keep this ship intact, they’ll need a shepherd dog. Voyager will do the trick. His Arcanine bounds out, going up to the Miltank herd, giving them his unique brand of love.[break][break]
“We’ll get these little ladies to Melody. Dunno where they’re from, but HOME can take care of ‘em.”
